At C&C this morning...

I think the R33 is the only generation allowed into the states if it's modified to meet US safety and emissions standards.

I thought that was only for track or "off-road" though. Does that stuff make them legit legal?

What is this? (The car not the girl...)
![]() 09/01/2013 at 11:06 |

I'm not sure, I've seen a few R33's around the Carolinas. Someone's rolling around in a blue GT-R and there was a blue-grey two-tone GTS-T for sale for about 15k months ago.

Triumph Spitfire?

It looks kind of like that spitfire you picture, which is a of body style/version i am not very familiar with. It more reminds me of a GT6 but there's still something 'other' about it.
![]() 09/01/2013 at 11:13 |

It's a Shelby. I think it's called the Type 65.
![]() 09/01/2013 at 11:17 |

Wow, that's a Spitfire Coupe body (rear windows now give it away) crossed with a Shelby Daytona bits.
![]() 09/01/2013 at 11:17 |

Looks to be a Triumph GT6 (Spitfire's coupe version) with Superformance or Factory Five Cobra wheels.

True Jalop. I shoulda tracked down the owner.
![]() 09/01/2013 at 11:19 |

It did make me think of a Shelby Daytona, but super-rare made me think no.
Is the type 65 a variation on the Daytona?
GT6 just because
![]() 09/01/2013 at 11:20 |

A pretty mental owner to stuff a V8 into a light and delicate British coupe like that.
![]() 09/01/2013 at 11:21 |

The 65 is the race version I think. It had this exact rear design. So that's what made me think it.
![]() 09/01/2013 at 11:22 |

This is the one, it's up in Spartanburg.
![]() 09/01/2013 at 11:23 |

It still seems like a 65 to me. It had this exact rear end.
![]() 09/01/2013 at 11:26 |

I think it's a one-off custom and a well done one at that, I can't find any leads of a such a car from the factory or by a privater race team through google.
![]() 09/01/2013 at 11:28 |

It looks too small in comparison to the Shelby's proportions.
The more I look at it the more it seems like a GT6 replica of a Shelby Daytona.

It looks like it might be a 1970 Triumph GT6 Ford 5.0 V8 405HP at 2000 Lbs. Modified All-Steel Body (except fiberglass front fascia). Engine: Ford 5.0 405 Horsepower about 3000 miles on engine and rebuilt T5 5-Speed Transmission. Ford Motor Sports Aluminum GT40X Heads with Roller Rockers. Ford Racing E303 Cam, TRW Forged 10 to 1 pistons, Electromotive ignition. Edelbrock manifold and 650cfm carburetor. Aluminum Corvette C4 Rear End, and Corvette Breaks all around. Wilwood master cylinders and pedal assembly. Aluminum Summit Racing Rack and Pinion Steering, koni shocks and eibach springs. New tires 225/35R-17 and 255/40R-17 Yokohama. Corbeau Racing Seats, autometer gauges, four point roll bar, four point seat belt harness. And a lot more.

Ah gotcha

How do you know all of this? O.o
![]() 09/01/2013 at 11:40 |

If it's not a Motorex car, it's a gray-market "State Legal" car. basically, illegal but the state doesn't give a shit. Customs can show up at your door and take it though.
![]() 09/01/2013 at 11:43 |

I found it on the Googles.

Look up Motorex, those are the only legal cars that can be registered. They went through a debacle, but all of the cars with DOT Bond release paperwork are ok.
You can bring n a couple V-Spec models under show and display rules. That allows you to drive it 1000 miles a year for the purposes of exhibiting it. Race cars can only be brought in as race cars if they have documentation proving they were built as a race car not a road car. So that means no street cars converted to race cars.
Those are the rules, but none of that really matters because people do sneak them in. I'd venture to say most on the road in the US are here illegally.

So basically what I'm looking at is an alternate reality where Carroll Shelby chose a Triumph GT6 to shoehorn a Ford V8 into instead of an AC Ace.
Awesome.

Exactly
![]() 09/01/2013 at 17:27 |

Please tell you found the owner and found out how he did it. Im not asking you to share what he did. Just if you now know how its done.
Was it a true GTR or a rebadged, kitted up lesser model?
![]() 09/01/2013 at 18:46 |

I couldn't find him. It had the engine, but it had no GT-R badge on the back. I'm thinkin it's a kitted GTS-T.
![]() 09/01/2013 at 20:11 |

That's the AMS shop GTR, it is a legit GTR, imported and legally converted to US standards/regs.
![]() 09/01/2013 at 20:12 |

Which C&C were you at, that's the AMS shop GTR. I'm local to them.
![]() 09/01/2013 at 20:22 |

Sweet! At least they wont have the feds breathing down their back.
![]() 09/01/2013 at 20:23 |

sadly, im not a buff on all the little giveaways so i could determine the model trim.
Cool stuff though. I always get all giddy when i see a skyline. Their presence is simply astounding.
